Greetings!
“Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.” - John 14:12
During Jesus’ earthly ministry he fed the poor and healed the sick. Presbyterian World Service and Development (PWS&D) is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Canada that does the works that Jesus did. On Sunday, we celebrated PWS&D’s 75th anniversary. We learned a lot from Guy Smagghe, the Director of PWS&D, about how this ministry of our church has helped people in need around the world for the last 75 years.
As we celebrate their 75th anniversary, I encourage you to make use of their new prayer resource (see details below). Praying through these prayers helps us to connect with the ministry of PWS&D through the power of the Holy Spirit.
To get you started, I am sending you a prayer from page 10.
Our Loving Creator God,
We bring before you this day the burden the whole world carries
as it endures extreme poverty and hunger in every land.
Stretch out your loving arms, we pray, to embrace the suffering adults and children
whose bodies, minds and spirits are shrinking before our very eyes.
Help us to look, really look, with clear eyes and open hearts,
to see the pain and hopelessness in their bewildered eyes.
Kindle within each one of us a flame of love and purpose,
and then enable us to channel our love into action in every way possible and impossible.
For this we pray. Amen.
Let us join together in prayer as we seek to do the works that Jesus did.
Grace and peace, Rev. Sarina
