Mid-week Message
Greetings!
Jesus said, “If you love me and obey the command I give you, I will ask the One who sent me to give you another Paraclete, another Helper, to be with you always—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept since the world neither sees, nor recognizes the Spirit, but you recognize the Spirit because the Spirit remains with you and will be within you.” - John 14:15-17
As we learn about the Acts of the Holy Spirit through the book of Acts and the letters of Paul, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit still lives and moves within and among us today. How do we notice the leading of the Holy Spirit?
There are five ways the Holy Spirit communicates with us: 1) through the Bible, 2) prayer, 3) Christian community, 4) the world around us, 5) acts of love. When we seek to be led by the Holy Spirit, we will notice that the Holy Spirit communicates to us through all five mechanisms.
God uses all five of these together to lead us on paths of righteousness and justice. If we wonder about whether a path set before us is from Jesus, we can seek the Holy Spirit through these five methods. We receive confirmation when there is alignment between all these methods of communication from God. Over the next few weeks I will write about each one. Hopefully we will all better be able to discern the Holy Spirit moving among us.
Grace and peace, Rev. Sarina
