Mid-week Message
Greetings!
“What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 1:9
Sometimes the book of Ecclesiastes can seem fatalistic. But it’s not. It’s an encouraging book that reminds us not to worry when change and challenge rage all around us. During our mortal lifetimes, we experience change as new and different. Depending on the change it can be exciting or it can be frightening. When change inspires fear, it is helpful to know that what feels new to us has been done before.
Often fear of the unknown inspires us to fear change. But, when there is nothing new under the sun, we can trust that what is happening is not unknown to God. God has been there over the eons of human life and has walked with us through all things. When we are living through uncertain times accompanied by change and challenge, we can trust that God has been here before. This frees us from fear and helps us to focus on what is important.
God is caring for the big picture. We must focus on the day-to-day and be faithful in the little things. God asks us to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. Doing this in the little things makes a world of difference. When it comes to the big picture, we look to God, trusting that Jesus is the way, and that the Holy Spirit is leading us. When we do our small part in the little things, looking to Jesus as our guide, we fit into the big picture as part of God’s resurrecting presence and power in the midst of change and challenge. Be encouraged! God is guiding us, and God has been here before.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Sarina
