Mid-week Message

Greetings,

“In the morning, while it was still very dark, [Jesus] got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.” - Mark 1:35

One of the things about tending a garden is that there is always more work to be done: more weeds to be pulled, more twigs to be cleaned, more grass to be mowed. It can seem like an endless amount of work. But, it’s important to remember that a garden is not just work. It is also a beautiful space to be enjoyed.

Our relationship with God is like a garden. We always have more work to do within our own souls, turning away from sin, learning how to be more like Jesus, and doing good in this world. It can feel like a relentless pursuit. But, it’s important to remember that our relationship with God is not just work. We also are called by God to stop and enjoy God’s presence. Taking this time to savor God’s presence is just as important as all the other things we do in our spiritual lives.

Just as some people enjoy their gardens early in the morning with a cup of coffee, Jesus is known for taking time to enjoy God’s presence through prayer early in the morning. I encourage you to find ways to connect with God and enjoy God’s presence. Whether you snuggle under a blanket with your Bible on the couch, or enjoy the goodness of God’s presence in creation on the lake, or some other way, be intentional about it. Build in time to enjoy God’s presence.

Grace and peace, Rev. Sarina
