Mid-week Message

Greetings,

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” - Psalm 125:1

When I was in Colorado a few weeks ago, there was a huge mountain outside the window of the main room of our retreat. My colleague, Chris, told us that the mountain is one that he has hiked. When he stood at the top of the mountain, above the clouds, he marveled at how the mountain is the same no matter what the weather. As we entered into the spiritual practice of silence in our retreat, he encouraged us to seek the voice of God deep within our hearts. Connecting with God in this way helps us to be like the mountain.

Many things happen in life. Circumstances and events act like different kinds of “weather” that are outside of our control. These circumstances can make us feel like a boat, unmoored and tossed about by the wind. Jesus dwells in our hearts through faith. He is a solid rock on which we stand. Through our prayer practice, we connect to Jesus, our rock. With Him as our anchor, we start to stand on solid ground. As we deepen our prayer practice—as we listen to the voice of God in the silence—we start to become like Jesus himself, like a rock. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we grow into a mountain that cannot be moved or tossed by the wind, but remains strong and becomes a refuge for others.

Whenever life’s “weather” feels overwhelming, remember the mountain. Seek the comfort of the voice of Jesus in your heart, trust him to help you be like the mountain, weathering any storm and standing strong, rain or shine.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Sarina
