Mid-week Message

Greetings,

You are dust and to dust you shall return.” - Genesis 3:19b

Lent begins tomorrow with Ash Wednesday. We begin Lent with Ash Wednesday to remind us that we are dust and to dust we shall return. This symbol—dust/ashes—reminds us to humble ourselves. Lent is a time when we humble ourselves and prayerfully reflect on our lives. The Christian life is one of learning. We are always learning how to follow Jesus better each day, each year, each season of life. Lent provides us with a yearly reminder to slow down and reflect on how we can more deeply connect with Jesus and more clearly reflect Jesus’ love in our everyday lives.

Traditionally, Lent is a time of repentance, when we turn away from sin in order to turn towards Jesus and be transformed by a new way of living. As we slow down and reflect, consider whether God is calling you to a time of prayerful repentance during the next 40 days. Lent can also be a time of healing in which we intentionally spend more time in prayer and Bible reading in order to more deeply connect with Jesus. As we slow down and reflect, consider whether God is calling you to a time of deepening your connection with Jesus in order to heal and grow.

Tomorrow morning, our Wednesday morning prayer will have an Ash Wednesday theme. Over Zoom, I will give each person a blessing in remembrance of ashes. I hope you will join us at 9am as we begin Lent with the symbol of ashes.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Sarina
