Greetings from Fredericton where I have had the opportunity to spend 10 days visiting with my mother (and apologies for not getting the Précis out sooner).
We had our last scheduled Session Meeting before the summer on June 14th. We were delighted to welcome Francois du Preez to his first Session meeting!
There were a few points of discussion that may be of interest to you.
As you may know, we have “term eldership” at Briarwood whereby an elder serves on Session for a 6-year term. In order to bring our procedures more in line with those of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, we decided that an elder who has completed a 6-year term will be immediately eligible to be nominated for a new 6-year term.
Amal Saikaly agreed to chair the Worship and Music Committee. Thanks so much, Amal!
The Search Committee continues its work. An enormous thanks to all who are serving our interests. Through their diligence, their attention to our needs, and their prayerful consideration of God’s will for Briarwood, they are discerning who is called to be our new Minister.
Finally we unanimously and enthusiastically endorsed a motion of thanks to Heather Campbell who stepped off Session in June. In addition to responsibilities common to all elders on Session, Heather chaired the Worship and Music Committee, she has been (and will continue to be) the coordinator of the Prayer Chain, and she has led some Bible studies, and those are the things that come to mind.
On behalf of the Session, I hope that you all have a wonderful summer, with time for rest and renewal, time for soaking in all that is beautiful about summer, and time with family and friends.
